What are the signs that I might need to bring coaching into my world and help me move beyond my obstacles?
It’s a great question. And one that you need to think about before committing to receiving some coaching.
Often we don’t have anyone else to talk to. There are times when we don’t have enough people, or perhaps the right people, around us to share what can be some deeply held feelings. You may also feel the people that are closest to you don’t or wouldn’t understand.
Being able to talk to a coach can be a such a therapeutic process in itself. It is often the best first step to find some clarity. To begin to feel you’ve got a handle on things, and ultimately get to some solution.
It may be that you need a place where you can talk and not be judged. You might want to consider that people you surround yourself with, your family, and friends aren’t going to ‘cut the mustard’ when it comes to giving that non-judgemental viewpoint.
That’s one of the critical parts that any coaching or counselling service can provide: a non-judgemental space.
Coaching and counselling take the viewpoint that you are doing the best you can with your current mindset. When you work with a coach they will help to loosen some of the fixed thinking we can all get into, and increase the quality of solutions.
AWAY FROM THE EVERYDAY
Needing a space where you’re free to let your thoughts, ideas and concerns be shared, can also be a sign that you’ll benefit from a coaching session. Sometimes we need that new environment to get a clear head, a fresh perspective on things. You may need to have that space which is away from your normal life, a place that is neutral far from the issues or problems you face.
Remember that holiday you took where you felt able to tackle anything? The new environment, the different views, the unfamiliar? They all contributed to help you feel more empowered. And on a similar level, that’s what you can achieve in a session – I just can’t promise a poolside view and sunshine.
WHEN YOU CAN’T SEE THE WOOD FOR THE TREES
When our minds feel consumed with thought, it is as though we’ve neutralised our ability to help ourselves. It could be that you’ve got to the point where you no longer have the emotional or mental capacity to unthread or work out your thoughts.
Coaching may be the best way to help when you’ve got so much going on in your mind. By being able to release the built up pressure can be one of the most liberating feelings. As though you’re finally taking in that big lungful of air and letting it all out.
So that moment when you feel emotional overwhelm can be a great signal that bringing in a coach will be beneficial.
SO HOW DO I KNOW I’M READY FOR A COACH?
When you’re feeling a sense of overwhelm. Not being able to see the wood for the trees. And you feel you need a confidential neutral space to process, go through, discuss, the things that are holding you back from where you want to be.
So consider those things if you’re unsure whether now is the right time to get the benefits from some coaching.
